As of this moment I am not evacuating. Not counting the small problem that I have no personal vehicle at the moment, no one in my family has the money to go anywhere. So we are preparing the homefront for imminent weather.

My best friend went out of town on Wednesday, her birthday, to spend a few days with her husband who has only been back state-side since mid-June and is scheduled to go back either at the end of Sep or Oct. This time, instead of the relatively calm Iraq, he will be moving into Afghanistan. So I encouraged her to go and leave her children in the hands of myself and both sets of their grandparents. We can handle things and if all goes well and they do not decide to cancel flights at the airport on Monday, she will be back in time to evacuate with her children. If not, she can stay in New York and sit tight until her mom is settled in MS and then try to get to them. It is not such an impossible situation that it can't be handled. I have explained to the girls what is going on with the hurricane on levels that they can understand and they seem to be pretty calm about it right now. The middle one is the one to worry about. My personal belief is that she may be a very high-functioning autistic. Most of the time, she behaves like any other child. There are times though that she seems that she cant handle her situations and either lashes out or looks for a repetative motion to calm her down. As of right now, she hasn't had either of those responses when I explain new information about the storm or what will happen if it comes here.

So the last two days, the girls and I have spent some time going through the inside and outside of the house getting things picked up and put away so that there will be less damage to the house. Most, if not all, of the stuff that could suddenly take flight outside has been stored inside the garage and all the electronics have been moved to higher grounds. Then they each packed 4-6 complete outfits and an extra pair of shoes than the ones they will be wearing to school and 1 special toy or momento. So after I drop them at their bus stops in the morning, I will drop that stuff with their grandparents. Then I get to come back here and finish doing the stuff that either the girls could not do or that was pointless to worry about tonight. Then I have to figure out what to do with her dogs and pack her van with the important papers and pictures that she has lying around the house. Then to my house to prepare it for incoming weather, people and animals. We are looking at having anywhere from just our two dogs and two cats to an additional 6 dogs.  Fun. I hope we don't because we are not a menagerie, but that decision is not mine. I might run away from the storms based on the company that is going to be kept at my house. Ugh.

Anyway, that is what is going on right now. If it begins to look imperative that I must leave, I will probably head north towards MO or OH. I have friends in both places that I can stay. It probably will not come to that though. I'm quite sure that I will be at work tomorrow and on Sat and Sun. Fun fun fun.

Good luck to anyone out there who is facing the same or worse issues as we are. I just wish they could figure out what this bastard and the bitch behind him are going to do. I'll be in touch...

In the unlikely event that we all have to go north, we'll be heading to my parents' on Wednesday, which is way near Ohio. At least it puts us close :)
