A moment in history
Nov. 4th, 2008 11:38 pmI left my house with pride tonight and headed down to my polling place to cast my vote. I knew what I was there for and I succeeded with no second thoughts. My reasons for casting my votes the way that I did had mostly to do with policy. I researched and listened and made an informed decision. I did my civic duty and let everyone hear my voice. That's what it takes, no matter how ineffective one person may believe their vote to be, to get things accomplished.
Second to the policy promises that were made, I also took a long look at the 8 years we've just exited and the last two presidential elections that I was legally able to take part in. Our country is in bad shape. We have a lot of problems that are easy to cast blame against one person for, but it's not just him. The policies and practices of this country are time honored traditions. Unfortunately, the ideas in Washington are lagging behind an ever changing world. I think this new direction will bring us back into the direction we need to be going. And as much as I didn't used to think so, we need our pride in this country justified, once and for all.
Tonight, I've felt more pride in the United States than I have since the 5-6 months immediately following September of 2001. That was the last time that I can remember being overwhelmed by how well we stand together...and just how beautiful it can be. Tonight, John McCain spoke about his pride in a country that can go from people angered over a black man who was important in our country's history being invited to the White House to electing our first black president of these United States in just one century. I was proud of him for making that part of his speech and even more proud that we did it. We elected a Black Man to the highest office. I'm impressed.
Maybe it's because I live in the south. Maybe it's because I've grown up hearing negativity about any race other than white. I don't know what it is, but I honestly was starting to believe that I would never see it happen in my lifetime. This is going to be an incredibly hard journey for our future president and his family. I'm not going to like every decision he makes and that's ok. Regardless of that, I love the fact that so much of this country stood together to announce that they were ready for change and that change was Obama.
Now I've been pretty behaved and tolerant for this election. And now that it's over, I feel like there are some things that need to be said. And the small disclaimer is that, if I'm wrong...I'll publicly apologize and tap dance to whatever tune you want. So on that note (and because I've been holding this in since the first time I heard it over 2 years ago), to all of those lovely people who don't believe that they have issues when they say things like "I wouldn't vote for Obama because he's (Muslim, hates white people, a socialist, and my personal favorite just going to be assassinated anyway)" FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU.
You are the reason our country rates a 10 on the "Is your population retarded?" Scale. My best advice is to KNOW WHAT YOU'RE TALKING ABOUT BEFORE YOU SPEAK. Because, and I'm just speaking generally here, speaking without having put thought into the words that you're saying is an incredibly unattractive policy and you should never ever ever do it again. Your membership into the gene pool should be revoked.
This has been my public service announcement. Thank you very much.

Date: 2008-11-05 09:41 am (UTC)She's a fucking loony bat that makes me sad to be a woman at times, she's not mainstream enough for non-regionally elected national politics ..... i'm telling you ..... obama/jindal ;)
And love, while i'll accept the fuck you.... he has't made it into office alive ... yet ... that's not why I didn't vote for him, but I still fear it. As I said before, god I hope I'm wrong about the assassination thing, because as much as i disagree with obama on, I disagree with biden 1000x more.
