The Scene

I am now, officially, a member of Denver Harbour. Went to orientation on a demo night. The demo was caning technique and a play party followed. I had a good time, despite the persistant cough left over from the respiratory infection. Everyone seems friendly and I had some good laughs. Knowing I was from as good a group as I'm from kept me from being nervous. I may even be negotiating with someone soon for some play. He's back into the scene after years and years, so it will be very much like playing with a novice. That's ok though, I've done worse. He seems like a good guy though...guess we'll see.

The worst part of the entire evening was after leaving the play space I managed to get lost in downtown Denver. When I say lost...I mean...Oh fuck me, where the fuck am I...lost. I ended up in what I will deem as "Little Mexico" cause all the signs are in spanish and no one there speaks enough english for a proper conversation. Had I retained any of the spanish I've learned over the years, it certainly would have come in handy tonight. I stopped at a McD's and the guy at the drive up was able to get enough english together to tell me that from where I was back to a place that would lead me to a place that could get me to where I'm staying was "not pretty..ugly place..uh..dangerous." Right..because this was going to make me feel better. Eventually I found the street I was supposed to be on to get back to the city I'm staying in, and that would eventually lead me to the street I live on, and still had to stop and ask a cab-driver if I was going in the right direction. Now, normally, I have a fantastic sense of direction and can pretty much find my way anywhere. That is, until I'm lost already. Even after I've found where I'm going, if I've been turned around enough times, that pinata is just too fuckin elusive for me to get a good hit in, yanno?

That's what I get for making my first full trip into Denver since I was here in April by my freakin self. I'll know better next time.

no graffiti, but some weird looking mexicans with mohawks near downtown were looking at the strange white girl. My biggest problem was that I couldn't get out of my car to go in anywhere and ask directions because I was wearing that long black skirt with the slit up to my hip. Yeah...didn't need a bunch of people I couldnt understand hitting on me. Or better yet, making fun of me. At least when it's in english I understand it.

i only found my way around New Orleans was by getting lost constantly. Every time i would find my way back to where i was going i would notice a new landmark. Eventually i strung all the landmarks (and weird-ass street names) together, and i can find my way pretty much anywhere. Just don't ask me to tell anyone else how to do it.

The problem with Denver is that downtown and all the surrounding cities have the same street names...only they don't always hook up together. I am living off Miss. Ave and much to my surprise and relief, I found a Miss Ave in Downtown....followed it...kept following it and eventually ended up in a trailer park...which led me to Little Mexico. You can't follow logic here.

And logic prevails in New Orleans?!?!?
