Public Showing of Stupidity in Americans Runs Rampant Again

A Category 5 Hurricane made landfall near the Nicaragua/Honduras border. The evacuated thousands of people, many tourists and made/are making them go home for their own safety. What an injustice. How terribly disappointing. It's a Cat. 5 for the love of God!


This is how one lovely American responded to being evacuated from his scuba trip with his family:

Bob Shearer, 54, from Butler, Pa., said he was disappointed his family's scuba diving trip to Roatan was cut short by the evacuation order. "I only got seven dives in. I hope they didn't jump the gun too soon," he said as he waited for a flight home in the San Pedro Sula airport. 

Hope.they.didn't.jump.the.gun.too.soon. Do people actually need to sit through or be in direct contact with a hurricane or it's aftermath before it dawns on them? Before they understand just how unpredictable the damage can be and how much danger they could actually face? Only 7 dives? Move on. Seriously.

Oh, boo hoo, he can't dive any more because of a hurricane! But that's nothing. It's just a little bit of rain. It couldn't have been so bad.

Yeah...amen. I googled him afterwards and there was another person who had to comment on this guy on their LJ too. If he wanted to make a name for himself, he's certainly succeeding.

You are right, most anyone who has never experienced a hurricane think they are just overblown thunderstorms. Have actually had someone from Ohio ask me why be scared of a big rainstorm. Tried to explain, while the dynamics of formation of a thunderstorm and hurricane are similar, that is like saying the dynamics of a Model T are similar to those of a modern Formula 1 racer. totally different class. Of course, that this idiot is ego centric enough for that to be his concern, qualifies him for one free pass out of the gene pool in my opinion. But this was a "family" trip so he has probably already bred, *sigh*

I'm an ex-Pennsylvanian and they have no clue what hurricanes are all about. Snow and Dutch food, sure. Tropical weather, not so much. During the storm season in aught 5 my mother was worried sick about me. She had seen bodies floating in New Orleans and thought it was going to happen in Laffy. People that live on the Gulf coast know the deal about hurricanes because they have to.
