Feb. 27th, 2005 10:35 pmI got on tonight while slightly distracted by the Academy Awards. I read through everyone else's new tidbits (hope you're having the time of your life tonight, grace)and then clicked the link to begin my own update. I had every intention of making it one of those high energy, wow-look-what-happened-to-me things and then I went to start typing and completely forgot what I wanted to say! Sheesh. Luckily, after sitting here staring at the blank screen and after typing the first sentence, I've remembered and can now applaud myself for something that happened to me last night before I left to go to the party.
The park I work for has 81 campsites that are all filled up on the weekends by people that are either crazy or annoying. There is no real in between. The crazy ones are a lot of fun and this weekend we had a crazy cajun that plays the cajun squeezebox (accordian, slightly modified). He even came up to the front office at one point and serenaded me with some cajun music. I, of course, was in heaven because I love listening to it. Well I stopped by his campsite after work just to say thanks, and I ended up chatting for a bit. He had a friend there that has played in bands for years, plays all kinds of music. He heard me singing to some of the music he had playing and just about jumped out of his skin to get my phone number so that he could harass me about coming to practice with his band. At first I needed to assess how much he'd had to drink, but he was serious. He took my number and told me that it was opportunity talking and if I did well, he could make it worth my while to sing at some gigs he had lined up. I'm still in that process of learning how to live life and get over some of that fear, so I told him that I'm not opposed to at least giving it a try. Why not, right? I guess we'll just have to see how that pans out. Needless to say, that gave me a rather large head for a good portion of the night. I went to the party with a completely good headspace, unlike while I was preparing to go earlier in the day. I wasn't totally up for it. I said yes to going because I knew that I would have fun once I got there. I'm glad too because I had a fantastic time. Good scene and some wonderful people. Yay for me!
