Does anyone know where I can get the latin lyrics to "O Holy Night!"?? I knew the song years and years ago and have forgotten the last part of the first verse and all of the second two and it's driving me crazy. If anyone has any links they can provide, I would love it very much!

I did some research and can't find them anywhere. Oh Holy Night wasn't penned until the 1800s and is based on a French poem written in the mid 1800s. Wikipedia has lyrics in other languages.

I'll ask on the UK boards for you if you like.

So far no go on the "Oh Holy Night" thing... however someone did submit Silent Night and since the second stanza is Sancta nox.... I thought I might send it also.

Tranquilla nox! Sancta nox!

Dormit mundus; nulla vox

Iam auditur; in stabulo

Maria et Ioseph cum puero

Qui dormit placide.

Qui dormit placide.

Tranqilla nox! Sancta nox!

Ad pastores iam venit velox

Illud verbum ex angelis--

"Alleluia, nunc adis,

Christe, Redemptor tu!

Christe, Redemptor tu!"

Tranquilla nox! Sancta nox!

Fili Dei, quanta mox

Caritas lucet ex ore tuo:

Gratiae tempus adest mundo , Cum natus sis, Domine!

Cum natus sis, Domine!

Version 2 (Translated by Josiah B. Game)

Silens nox, sacra nox!

Omn(e) est lux, omn(e) est pax

Circum matrem et puerum.

Infans sacer, O beate,

Dorm(i) in pace quieta,

Dorm(i) in pace quieta.

Silens nox, sacra nox!

Pastores nunc adorant.

Glori(ae) ex stellis veniunt,

Angeli "Halleluiah" cantant,

"Christus, salvator, adest,

Christus, salvator, adest."

Silens nox, sacra nox!

Fili Dei, Lux pura coeli,

Clare radiat ex facie tua,

Prima luce gratiae sacrae,

Domine, Iesu natu,

Domine, Iesu natu.

Version 3 (Translated by Stanford Miller)

Silens nox, sancta nox,

Placida, lucida,

Virginem et puerum

Dulcem atque tenerum,

Somno opprime,

Somno opprime.

Silens nox, sancta nox,

Angeli nitidi

"Alleluia" concinunt;

Nunc pastores metuunt;

Christus natus est,

Christus natus est.

Silens nox, sancta nox,

Candida, splendida

Fili Dei facies

Nobis praebet novas spes;

Christus natus est,

Christus natus est.

Do you happen to know the first stanza's words?

Oh, cool! I'd love to learn that one in latin as well. There is something more beautiful and serene about latin in a song. I'm really not sure about spelling of certain words, but here is what I can remember.

O mira nox,
en qua aful si mundo
al tis si mi stupeda caretas

O sacra nox,
en qua salut temp nostram
eh a mus ta Virgo peperit
Eh a mus us que Betlehem
Et pro cum bentes gui ni bus
Filium, alter ni ado remus....

And that's where my memory fails me. Some of that is spelling only phonetically, I'm sure.

Either way, I really appreciate you looking it up for me.

I like O, Come All Ye Faithful in Latin. I like to sing it rather than the English.
Yes, I sing Silent Night in German and that Dutch song from Miracle on 34th....

I have language issues. I'll ask around, also.
