The Prez is at it again.
Feb. 19th, 2008 10:19 amHave you ever brought someone to a party, finally introduced them to all of your friends and the first thing they do is get drunk and act like an idiot/asshole? That feeling of anger, embarrassment, and well...::facepalm:: is essentially what I feel like when the president expresses his feelings about..um...anything.
Castro resigned today. Ok, I understand that Cuba is a communist country. Communism isn't necessarily a good thing, especially when your people live (basically) in squalor. He managed effectively ostracize his country from most countries that would be able to help them in a crisis situation. That's established. But to hear Castro's countrymen (the ones who are *not* escaping) talk about their country, they have just as much pride about their lives as we do. And we're some arrogant fucks.
So here's my thing. Upon the announcement today that Castro was resigning due to health problems this is what our fearless leader had to say: President Bush said Castro's decision ought to spark "a democratic transition" for Cuba. ::facepalm:: Not again. I'm praying that the next 10 months will speed up before the idiot has a chance to spread democracy again. Democracy is starting to sound like an infectious disease to other countries, I'm sure. I love democracy. But why does he feel that the entirety of the world needs to have that same love of...HIS ideals again? Ugh..
Dear Kook, It's completely unnecessary for you to insist other countries have democracy. It took the US 300 years to get out from under the British crown. Give people some time for the love of pete. Surely you don't believe that everyone wishes they had what we have (which, by the way has certainly got it's fair share of issues to be dealt with - get on it!)? They're not bombing us because they're jealous. Please, please stop giving Americans a bad name because you think everyone else needs to have a mini-america. It's embarrassing. Seriously, we can't take you anywhere when you behave like this. I refuse to let my friends meet you if this is how you're going to behave.
*eyeroll*

Date: 2008-02-19 10:59 pm (UTC)Friends of mine have a wonderful Letter to America on their refrigerator in which concern is expressed about this unhealthy relationship with an abusive boyfriend (Bush) and how we should just break up with him because he's doing us harm and embarassing our friends.
